Kuelap Archaeological Zone

The Kuelap Archaeological Site (ZAMK) is a cultural site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. It covers 136 hectares and is located in the province of Luya, department of Amazonas, Peru. The ZAMK stands out for its biodiversity and is home to five archaeological monuments connected by ancient roads. The main monument of the ZAMK is the Llaqta or Kuelap Fortress, built around 600 AD. and abandoned in the 16th century. The ZAMK is a testimony to the power of the Chachapoyas lords and functioned as a political, administrative and religious center.

Important information

  1. TICKET FOR THE KUÉLAP ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMPLEX (CAMK): allows the user to enter the Parador Turístico – Malcapampa Visitor Center (adjacent to the Telecabinas arrival station), travel the CAMK trails , enter the replica of the Chachapoyas house and access the front of the llaqta (fortress) of Kuélap.
  2. TICKET FOR THE KUÉLAP ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMPLEX (CAMK) + LLAQTA: allows the user what is established in the CAMK ticket and, additionally, enter one of the cultural circuits available in the llaqta (fortress) from Kuelap. To enter the Kuelap llaqta (fortress) it is required to obtain a ticket in advance since the number of spaces is limited.
  3. The cable car service is operated by a private company, which has an established cost and does not operate on a daily basis. We recommend checking the operating calendar of Telecabinas Kuélap:

Restrictions and Recommendations

  • The ticket must be presented at the Parador Turístico – Malcapampa Visitor Center (adjacent to the Telecabinas arrival station).
  • In the case of the CAMK + LLAQTA ticket, you must additionally present it at the surveillance and control post No. 01 in front of the llaqta (fortress) of Kuélap (a 40-minute walk from the Parador Turístico – Visitor Center of Malcapampa).
  • It is remembered that the tickets are personal and non-transferable and that, to enter the llaqta (fortress) of Kuélap, users must arrive at the surveillance and control post No. 01, with due advance notice

Important note

  • The promotional rates are applicable to national visitors, foreigners residing in the country and citizens of the Andean Community, to the Kuélap Archaeological Complex, as well as to the Kuélap and Llaqta Archaeological Complex. (See Ministerial Resolution No. 000007-2024-MC).
  • The time shown on the ticket corresponds to the entrance to the llaqta (fortress) of Kuélap located a 40-minute walk from the Visitor Center – Parador Turístico de Malcapampa.
  • In the event that the visitor is not at the surveillance and control post No. 01 at the time indicated on the ticket, he or she will not be able to enter the Kuelap llaqta (fortress), without the right to a refund of the amount paid.
